“Art and love are the same thing: It’s the process of seeing yourself in things that are not you.” —Chuck Klosterman
At a time when so many things are mass produced, scores of us are embracing “traceable” products—precious goods that are made by hand in small quantities. Whether it’s our desire for authenticity or our concerns about ethical consumption, makers matter to us.
This month, we celebrate those makers among us: the artists who create objects of aesthetic value and the artisans who imbue artistry into their craft to make something functional.
The lives and inspirations of a woodworker, a painter and a culinary artisan are explored in our February “Makers” issue, along with the story of two brothers who have perfected the falafel and a couple who turned their beloved home into a canvas for inspired living.
There’s even a little background on some of the photographers and writers whose eyes and ears brought prose and pictures to this month’s issue.
Enjoy our February issue! Happy Valentine’s Day, Groundhog Day and Presidents’ Day. May you be blessed with love, the promise of an early spring, and a day off work with the kiddos.
