Abloom in Winter 6

Bring the Outdoors In with Festive Floral

When Maxine and Adam Alcott opened their first floral business in 1986, a small studio west of Santa Fe Drive that specialized in events and hotel decor, Highlands Ranch as a community was just getting going. “We were watching Highlands Ranch grow up around us, and it seemed like a natural move to open a retail store right there, in the community where we had already established a business.”

Since then, there’s been no looking back. Widely known as the “go-to” florist in Highlands Ranch, Abloom has been a bustling bounty of business for decades now, serving occasions that range from corporate events and weddings to individuals’ events and occasions.

“Our work is distinctive, says Maxine. “Our customers will tell us they attended a particular event and they immediately knew that Abloom provided the floral arrangements.”

So what’s the Abloom signature style? “Our taste is for contemporary, open and airy designs that feature a lot of negative space—curly willow, tied grasses and interesting flourishes,” said Maxine. When asked about the latest trends in floral design, Maxine says she knows what her clientele wants. “I’m always interested in designing more unique arrangements. I’m not worried about trying to keep up with trends.”

And finally, what’s the best way to communicate the design or look your event needs? “If you’re working with a florist you like and you respect their work, be as descriptive as you can. Give them the parameters:  where the arrangement will be displayed, whether it will be for a centerpiece/display table/coffee table, the shape and size of the table, color schemes, etc. Then let them go to work for you.”

Recently, Maxine and her team went to work for us, sharing three unique arrangements for the holiday entertaining season, along with tips on extending the life of your winter bouquets.
