Brews in the 'Burbs 5

A south suburban brewery tour? We’ll drink to that!

With summer right around the corner, many of us have three things on our minds – beer, beer, and more beer. And with the explosion of craft breweries there’s good news for suburban-dwellers – you no longer have to make the trek downtown to enjoy local brews thanks to a multitude of neighborhood breweries. Get up close and personal with the fermentation tanks while savoring delicious local brews right in your own backyard. Save your money on an Uber downtown, and get an extra flight (or two!) in our neck of the woods.

Grist Brewing Company

If you’re looking for a pleasant combination of thoughtfully-crafted beers and a relaxed and friendly environment, look no further than Grist Brewing Company. Highlands Ranch’s first production brewery opened its doors in November of 2013. Their core “Science Beers” are laboratory tested to meet rigid guidelines for each specific beer style. They also have “Creativity Beers” to please more adventurous imbibers. Beer connoisseurs will be delighted to find beer styles not normally on tap, such as the Niobrara Milk Stout, one of their flagship beers. Grist enlists passionate brewers so dedicated to the perfection of every batch of beer that they’ll dump any batch that does not meet their standards. Enjoy your brews on the sunny patio, at the spacious bar, or at one of the many community tables inside the industrial-style brewery.

3 Freaks Brewery

Conveniently located on the corner of County Line and Quebec, 3 Freaks Brewery describes itself as a “nano-brewery,” whipping up small batches of beer. The small batch brewing allows the team to be extremely creative in their concoctions. Check online or call ahead to see what’s on tap, but the Yoga Pants IPA is typically a staple, and if Jess’ Backyard Kolsch is available, order it! If you go on brew day, you can even see the brewers hard at work while you enjoy the fruits of their labor (not to mention the delicious roasted malt aroma). After you build your own sampler flight, you can chill out in the tasting room at the bar or catch some rays on their patio. The welcoming atmosphere, eclectic décor, and friendly staff make 3 Freaks a place at which you’ll want to stay and savor the tempting brews.
